Kadavu is one of the best places to experience true Fijian culture. With just one town and very few roads, you can escape modern life and experience Fiji’s incredible natural beauty.
Completely unspoiled, the islands are renowned for diving and are home to the world-famous Great Astrolabe Reef. There’s plenty to see inside the islands too, including rainforests, birdwatching and guided sea-kayaking tours. Accommodation is plentiful, and while getting around is an adventure, it’s worth it to experience such tranquil, untouched islands.
The islands have a small range of guest houses, budget backpackers and high-end resorts, with many of these places accessible only by boat.
The road system in Kadavu is very limited, with most transport by boat. There is a shuttle bus available to pick you up at Kadavu Airport to take you to wherever your boat is leaving from.
Pacific Sun has daily flights from Nadi and Nausori Airport just out of Suva. For those who want to experience inter island travel as the locals do, there is a ferry that departs from Walu Bay, Suva, on Tuesday evenings which travels to Vunisea, Kavala Bay then back to Suva around 2pm the following day.
